Course Overview:

SafeLand Training Course Description

Three oil workers walking toward an oilrig at sunset.More than 25 of the leading oil and gas operators accept SafeLand USA 2021 Basic as training that meets and/or exceeds their minimum contractor-safety orientation requirements. SafeLand USA 2021 Basic has become the standard orientation program for the industry and certifies a student at awareness level. 

The course meets API RP 75 and OSHA awareness training requirements.  It satisfies almost all major/mid-major operators’ contractor-safety training requirements.  SafeLand provides basic awareness-level general safety information that every employee should know before entering a company facility and while performing their assigned work duties.

Veriforce’s SafeLandUSATM 2021 Basic provides a one-day safety orientation accredited by SafeLandUSA.

Omega Safety Training, Inc. (OSTI) conducts this 8-hour instructor-led general awareness-level training course virtually each weekday or in-person at your location (5-student minimum required, may include additional costs).

Course Evaluation

Students complete the course with a basic understanding of the common hazards and controls measures workers need before entering an oil and gas company facility. 

Students must successfully complete digital exams to verify competency in SafeLandUSATM 2021 Basic topics before earning the SafeLand credential.

SafeLand Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate and a Veriforce ID card. This card lists Veriforce course requirements the student has met. Employers may verify student training on the Veriforce ID Card or online at PECCard.com.

Course Components & Objectives

The International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) Life-Saving Rules creates the foundation of this program. The Life-Saving Rules identify activities most likely to expose industry workers to hazards and lists actions workers can take to protect themselves and their colleagues from serious injuries and fatalities.

Course content includes:

  • An introduction to the IOGP Life Saving Rules
  • Approaches to workplace safety including Behavior-based Safety, Human Performance, and Safety Culture
  • General safety, hazard control and industrial hygiene discussions
  • Overviews of hazard communication and HAZWOPER regulations
  • Reviews of specific workplace hazards including
    • Excavation and trenching
    • Hot work
    • Energy Isolation (LOTO)
    • Confined Spaces
    • Electrical Safety
    • Working at Heights
    • Safe Mechanical Lifting
    • Line of Fire
    • Driving
